How come we cant see your station on the map. I can see where you are providing the service of tracking ... however with the Ham side of things .... you can see where the station is...

What is happening behind the scenes to make this happen (are you receiving the info and uploading to the internet directly or are you sending the information to another radio/source and then it gets uploaded)

I am trying to find the right radio that will suit my needs regarding APRS and my personal needs .... however like always - the right radio is very hard to find....

Hi orangepeel, I didn't mean to hijack your thread lol...

I'm using an AOR AR8200 tuned to 162.025MHz. The AIS data is then fed into my PC which is running ShipPlotter.
The data is then uploaded automatically to MarineTraffic.com.
You can see my receiving station here: http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/defaul ... level0=100#
MarineTraffic forwards my data to APRS.FI, however my receving station won't appear there as I am not registered with that site.
I also forward data, from ShipPlotter, to this site: http://www.shiptracking.eu/

Cheers,
Dave

Sorry - may not have made myself clear .....

I realise you can use any radio - however i was wondering if you use the 6mini pin jack on the radio or it you use some other interface to use the radio for APRS....

I see alot of other model/brands out there that are "APRS ready" - however nothing mentioned for the 208H.

I am keen to try out APRS when i am not in QSO with others and when driving around - but just wanted to get a feeling of how much i would be up for with parts to get the 208H APRS ready - using Tinytrak etc etc ...

The more info the better it would be as i am not fully sure what extra gear i need to get it up and running ....

Hope that clears it up ...

If you are going to use a TinyTrak, or similar, all you need is an audio/PTT lead to the Mic socket, and a lead from the Spkr socket. This has the disadvantage, that if you want to use Voice, then you have to dis-connect the APRS, and re-connect the microphone, either by a switch-box, or other means.

'APRS ready' models usually have seperate sockets, and generally also by-pass the pre-emphasis / de-emphasis circuits allowing 9600 baud APRS, as well as the "Normal" 1200 baud.

Just found this ...

http://www.byonics.com/microtrak/mtaio.php Looks good for those whom want APRS capability without a radio....

Use it without a licence - well - wont take you long to be tracked down ....

Still trying to figure out if i want to get a new radio and then fiddle around with extra cables for APRS - or to get a cheap handheld for 2m and the MT-AIO for ARPS...

Decisions decisions ....
