29, 1921, in Osage County, Okla. He at- tended school in Pawhuska and Still- water, before joining the War National Guard, 45th Infantry Divi- sion, which mobilized in 1940. He then joined the United States Navy immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Upon completing combat aircrew training in Florida, he was assigned to Patrol Bombing Squadron Twenty (VPB-20) and deployed to the Pacific theater, participating in 31 combat patrol bombing missions. On one such mission his aircraft sustained major damage from anti-aircraft fire.

Though the aircraft was forced to crash land, his actions enabled the safe return to its base at Leyte Bay, Philippines. Mr. Barlow earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and three U.S. Air Medals for his service. Mr.

Barlow married Fannie Grace Rector on Jan. 15, 1947, and together they made Fort Worth their home. He began his aeronautical career at Con- solidated Vultee (General Dynamics). In addition, Mr. Barlow founded a successful residential real estate business in Fort Worth, and remained active in it for over 50 years.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Ridglea Country Club, Petroleum Club, Benbrook American Legion Post 297 (charter member), Ridglea Masonic Lodge 1341, Moslah Shrine Center Legion of Honor, Fort Worth Airpower Council, Kiwanis and the VFW. David was born and reared in Fort Worth. He was a career veteran of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. In the Navy, he was an enlisted electronics technician.

As a com- manding officer in the Coast Guard, he worked as a training and educa- tional specialist in Washington, D.C. and for the 1st Coast Guard district in Boston. David was a great advocate of military service. He enjoyed counsel- ing young men and women regarding their education and career goals. David loved boats and the water.

This lifelong passion started with a small sailboat in Texas as a teenager. It continued with his career in the Na- vy and Coast Guard and thrived in the waters ofChesapeake Bay and Cape Cod. David had a wave and a smile for everyone. He would often say it cost him anything to be nice to other people and he always got back more than he gave. Early onset disease is a rare form of dementia affecting people under the age of 65.

Most are diagnosed in their The Mayo Clinic estimates that at least 300,000 people suffer from this form of Alz- disease. Throughout the progression of this debilitating illness, David contin- ued to bring joy to everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Charles Brewer. 29, 1929, the youngest of three boys born to Orland Francis and Edna Irene Calhoun. He was a graduate of Mattoon High School, Eastern New Mexico University and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He entered the United States Air Force in 1950 and served until 1978, achieving the rank of colonel. Colonel Calhoun married Susan Ann Tuttle of Mattoon June 27, 1959. Colonel Calhoun was stationed at Homestead AFB, Seymour John- son AFB, N.C., Carswell AFB, Texas, Griffiss AFB, N.Y., Andersen AFB, Guam, U-Tapao Royal Thai AFB, Thai- land and Offutt AFB, Neb.

Colonel Calhoun served in the Ko- rean and Vietnam wars and was a wing commander of the 307th Stra- tegic Wing at U-Tapao and 68th Bomb Wing at Seymour Johnson. He completed 108 combat missions and received the Legion of Merit, Distin- guished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Air Medal five times, Meritorious Ser- vice Medal two times, Accommoda- tion Service Medal and 10 other ser- vice medals. He retired in 1978 and moved to Azle, where he lived until 1995, when he moved to Fort Worth. He worked for American Airlines as DC-10 sys- tems instructor and served as senior director of training for American Air- lines Training Corporation. He owned and operated American Air Academy at Meacham International Airport and later worked for McDonnell- Douglas in military marketing.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, past president of the Fort Worth Chapter of the Air Force Association and a member of the Daedalions. In 1966, he became a partner in the company. By 1971, he was named president and in 1987, he succeeded Frank Kent as chairman of the board. He was also named the Dealer Princi- pal by Cadillac Motor Company. John was past president and di- rector of Tarrant County New Car Dealers Association, past secretary of Cadillac Dealer Council, a Time Magazine Quality Dealer, Cadillac Master Dealer and received numer- ous recognition awards from Cadillac Motor Company. He served on the corporate board of the Fort Worth Club, was past director for the National Confer- ence of Christians and Jews, past di- rector of the Tarrant County Chamber of Commerce, and past director of Ju- nior Achievement.

John held memberships in New Car Dealers of Tarrant County, Texas Automobile Dealers Association, Na- tional Automobile Dealers Associa- tion, Cadillac Quality Dealers Associ- ation, Rotary Club, Moslah Temple Shrine, Shrine Jesters, Fort Worth Club, Petroleum Club and Colonial Country Club. He was also a member of University Christian Church and the Moudy Sunday school class. John loved to play golf and was always active in supporting Fort Worth and its community.
