I love chicken & dumplings! It's one of my favorite meals. Have you ever added a couple of boiled eggs? I was weary at first but I promise it makes the meal even more delicious!

You won’t regret it! When my friends have babies or surgery I like to bring meals and I always used to default to lasagna or baked spaghetti - now it’s not an option because they specifically request chicken & dumplings. 😁

FAQs

How do I make my chicken and dumplings thicker? ›

Use Cornstarch to Thicken Chicken and Dumplings

To give that a little thicker texture we're going to add 1 cup of cool water to 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and stir it up well. Make sure the soup is brought back to a good boil and go ahead and stir in the cornstarch mixture.

How do you taste test dumpling filling? ›

If it tastes bland before you stuff it into the wrapper, it will be even more tasteless as a dumpling, as the wrappers will mute the flavor slightly. Depending on what your filling is, and if you don't want to taste it raw, you can perform a “spot test” and cook a tablespoon of filling to test the seasoning.

How to tell if dumplings in chicken and dumplings are cooked? ›

To test if dumplings are done, stick a toothpick or skewer into the dumpling after the specified cook time. If the skewer comes out clean, the dumplings are done. If it comes out wet or sticky, cover and let cook a bit longer. Floating isn't as good of a gauge of doneness, so stick with a toothpick.

Chicken Broth Substitute: Salted Butter + Water

Why are my chicken and dumplings not fluffy? ›

Don't Overwork the Dumpling Dough

Stir everything together until the wet and dry ingredients are combined and you don't see any more dry flour. The dough might look a little lumpy, but that's okay! Overworking the dough is one of the easiest ways to end up with tough dumplings.

Do you cook dumplings with lid on or lid off? ›
