Season 2 Episode 22 of Mushoku Tensei might just be the most tragic episode in the entire series, as Paul Greyrat gives up his life while trying to save Rudeus from the Hydra’s final attack. I can say that I loved the character because he wasn’t perfect, and you could tell that regardless of his flaws, those around him deeply cared about him and it showed. Even at the end he cared for his family when others would have given up, and in the end scarified did his best.

Among anime dads, he wasn’t perfect but he was a CUT above the rest. It’s unfortunate he didn’t make the CUT but that’s what Mushoku Tensei is all about, it’s not a great epic nor is it a hero’s tale. It’s a SLICE OF LIFE

Season 2 will explore this theme further, showcasing Rudeus’ continued efforts to atone for his past and become a better person.

More Than Just an Isekai: While Mushoku Tensei falls under the isekai genre, it offers much more than a simple “transported to another world” story. The second season of Mushoku Tensei focuses greatly on the importance of self-improvement and human connection.
