Hellhound is a common monster that can be assigned from your Slayer Master. There is a boss variant and a normal variant as well. There are a lot of places where you can access the normal variant of this monster. Let’s look at the best one.
Best Places to Kill
Catacombs of Kourend
If you are not using Wilderness the best place to do your slayer task for this monster is in the Catacombs of Kourend. These hellhounds are in a multi combat area unlike all the other places the hellhounds reside in so you can put on protection from melee and just AFK with auto-retaliate on. The main reason why you would want to kill this monster in the catacombs is the fact that they can drop totem pieces and ancient shards. These drops are unique to the catacombs and cannot be obtained any place else. Since there is almost nothing in the drop table of a regular hellhound this will be a good edition.
Wilderness Slayer Cave
If you are using Wilderness, the absolute best place to kill this monster is the Wilderness Slayer Cave. Hellhounds in this dungeon have access to the Wilderness drop table so you will be making money. They are also in multi combat and are cannonable. This place is the only place where you can use a cannon in a multi combat area against hellhounds.
For Ironmen Safespotable
If you are an Ironman and you don’t want to waste any supplies killing these creatures, the best place to do this is in the Stronghold Slayer Dungeon. You can easily safespot the hellhounds via a ranged weapon here and you can also set-up a cannon if you have the resources for it to speed up your individual kills.
Weakness
All monsters in Old School Runescape have weaknesses against some combat style or weapon. The hellhounds are weak to everything.

You can pretty much use any combat style you want against these creatures. If you are looking for the best DPS though, you would want to use the best magic gear you have alongside water spells.
Best Gear Setups
Your gear setups should always be according to the weakness of the monster and it should almost always be the best in slot gear for that combat style. Here are some examples for regular hellhounds:

Ammo: Holy blessing
Cape: Infernal/Fire Cape
Body: Torva/Bandos
Legs: Torva/Bandos
Weapon: Any tier 70+ weapon or Arclight
Shield: Avernic/Dragon defender
Boots: Primordial/Dragon boots
Gloves: Ferocious/Barrows gloves
Ring: Ultor/Berserker ring or Lightbearer
Killing in multi-combat with prayer:
Helmet: Slayer Helmet
Neck: Amulet of Torture/Fury or Dragonbone necklace
Ammo: Holy blessing
Cape: Infernal/Fire Cape

Range![OSRS Hellhound Slayer Task Guide (6) OSRS Hellhound Slayer Task Guide (6)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==)
Although it is recommended to kill these with melee or mage, here is a list of items you can use to kill them ranged as well:
Helmet: Slayer Helmet (i)
Neck: Necklace of Anguish or Dragonbone Necklace
Ammo: Holy blessing or ammo for your weapon
Cape: Dizana’s quiver or Ava’s assembler
Body: Masori/Armadyl or Blessed d’hide

Magic![OSRS Hellhound Slayer Task Guide (7) OSRS Hellhound Slayer Task Guide (7)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==)
Magic, especially at max level will be your best DPS against these monsters. However you will be constantly losing money for this DPS since casting each spell costs runes. It can still be a good trade-off to quickly get through the task and move on to the next one. Here is the best magic gear that you can use:
Helmet: Slayer Helmet (i)
Neck: Occult Necklace or Dragonbone Necklace
Ammo: Holy blessing
Cape: Imbued God cape
Body: Ancestral robe top or any robe that have a magic damage boost
Legs: Ancestral robe bottom or any robe that have a magic damage boost
Weapon: Harmonised nightmare staff (most important item)
Shield: Tome of water (charged)
Boots: Eternal boots
Gloves: Tormented bracelet or Barrows gloves
Ring: Magus ring/Seers ring (i)/Ring of the gods (i)
Harmonised nightmare staff is the most important part of this setup since it allows you to cast spells a tick faster.

Witchhaven dungeon
Karuulm Slayer dungeon
Taverley Dungeon
It is not recommended to do your hellhound slayer tasks in these locations.
Cerberus
Cerberus is a slayer task only boss that requires level 91 Slayer to kill. You can kill this boss instead of the regular hellhounds for some good rewards. Boss itself is really simple so let’s jump straight into it!
Weakness
Cerberus has a main weakness to crush attacks followed up by stab attacks, so you should pick one of them to slay this boss. If you are going for stab you can also use arclight on stab since it is a demonbane weapon.
