The Barnyard - One of its Kind Animal Petting Farm in Delhi (2024)

Guinea pigs, Donkeys, Horses, Cows, Sheep, Goats, Rabbits, Ducks, Dogs, Hen, and more – these are the cute animals at Delhi’s one-of-a-kind animal petting farm in Sainik Farms – The Barnyard.

If you are looking to get involved with animal welfare in Delhi, then this initiative of the Holy Cow Foundation is literally as good as it gets. Not only does playing with and feeding these cute furries be an instant mood booster for you, but with help of your visits, you are inevitably raising funds for a good cause.

Animal welfare has been a cause that’s always close to my heart. So when my friend Shivani learned about this novel concept, we decided to pay them a visit.

Soon after our first visit, The Barnyard became our monthly escape and a place to relieve stress. Just being amidst these adorable farm animals, gobbling the food we offer gleefully, has a calming effect on us (And anyone who chooses to visit the farm). The Barnyard also happened to be literally the only petting zoo near me so when I was staying in South Delhi, it was hard to resist paying a visit to the cute farm animals.

About The Barnyard

The Holy Cow Foundation is an animal welfare NGO in Delhi and The Barnyard is the brainchild of Founder Anuradha Modi. This unique concept aids in animal rescue in Delhi and is supported via donations, visits to the farm, and adopting farm animals. Basically, you can support these furry friends in the following ways –

Visit the Farm with your Family & Friends

You need to pre-book a visit to this awesome animal petting zoo in Delhi. There is a small fee of $7 (Rs 500) to visit the farm, pet the animals, feed them and lift your spirits (as well as the animals). The animals on the farm are friendly and there is always someone to assist you with names, what they eat, how to handle them etc.

The entrance fee goes towards feeding these distressed rescue animals and maintaining the farm.

Adopt a Farm Animal at The Barnyard

Adopting a farm animal virtually is my favorite form of supporting The Barnyard. For just around $14 (Rs 1000) per month, you can help pay upkeep costs for anyone animal on the farm. Certainly, you can even support several animals by pro-rating this figure.

Not only do you get a certificate to keep that determines you have adopted XYZ animal but also a chance to visit your animal (s) anytime you want (without paying the entrance fee but with prior booking). You can play and feed your virtually adopted pet and in some cases even choose to adopt them.

As for me, I chose a cute baby donkey named Pie as my pet and I take every opportunity to go visit (and feed) him and other cute Barnyard animals whenever I can.

If you are so inclined you can even volunteer at The Barnyard Delhi. You and/ or your kids can feed, bathe and play with these cute farm animals and learn about them. It is a fun educational experience.

July 2022 update – The Barnyard is also coming up with more fun outdoor activities for kids, 5 pop up stalls for planet-friendly products, and a brand new vegan restaurant by October 2022. We can’t wait to see what new attractions our favorite petting farm comes up with.
