WAYNE ROONEY has explained the role he plays on EAFC team "Girth N Turf", but Gary Neville did not appear to be any the wiser.

Rooney, 38, featured on some of the Twitch streams of a number of viral gamers who play together on the popular football video game, formerly known as FIFA.

The Manchester United legend made headlines when he called organiser Angry Ginge a "ginger c***" during a live stream as they were playing.

Another flashpoint had seen Rooney jokingly threaten to knock someone out during a stream.

Since Rooney was not appearing with a video feed, with only his voice being heard, many fans believed it was not actually him.

That was until Angry Ginge, real name Morgan Burtwistle, and some of the other members of the group shared photos with Rooney on social media after he had invited them to a get together at his house.

Former Man Utd team-mate Gary Neville, was asking Rooney a set of quickfire questions onTheOverlap, brought to you bySky Bet, when the topic came up.

Neville asked Rooney: "Do you play like a game or something and you said I'm going to come around and knock you out to someone?"

Rooney confirmed: "It was on Girth N' Turf."

One fan was stunned to see it confirmed it was him, saying: "Just me who thought it was someone putting on a voice pretending to be Wayne Rooney."

Another said: "Fully confirmed that really was him in Girth n’ Turf."

Neville, who was rendered with a bemused look on his face, then asked: "What is that?"

Rooney explained: "It's mad. It's a bunch of streamers who have set up a FIFA team.

"I know Aitch, the rapper Aitch, and he said they've got this team, do you want to come in and have a couple of games.

"So I had nothing else to do so joined the team, it's hilarious.

"People who are subscribing and watching us play and I think the last game we played there was like 85,000 people, more than Old Trafford."

Wanting to know more, Neville said: "And did you threaten to knock someone out?"

Rooney said: "No that was one of the lads we were playing with. It was joking, yeah."

Neville added: "So you basically go on FIFA and people watch you and Aitch play? How do you do it? Is it a camera on the tele that watches you or something?"

Rooney replied: "So all the lads are streamers so they make a lot of money from it I think."

A flabbergasted Neville then looked down the path before quipping: "F***ing world doing, it's f***ing mad this world isn't it."

Prior to taking the Plymouth job, Rooney had revealed to the team on Twitch how he sleeps with the hairdryer on all night to help keep him cool.

Sidemen Charity Match star and Man Utd superfan Angry Ginge also revealed how Rooney had told wife Coleen he would not be able to do the school run due to "training".

However, the early training turned out to be a prank.

In an April live stream, Angry Ginge explained: "I said to him: ‘Training 8-11’. Next thing you know, 10 o’clock in the morning, I’m in bed trying to get to sleep and I get a phone call from Rooney.

"He said: ‘So I take it we’re not training lad’. I said: ‘What? What do you mean mate?’

"Genuinely, I’m p***ing myself, I’m absolutely p***ing myself, already, because I know what is coming.

"He goes: ‘Well, I’ve been up since half seven with the controller in my hands. I’ve just found out it’s just banter you guys have’.

"So he’s been sat there, since half seven, ready for ‘training’ with his controller. Unreal.
