On Wednesday 12th June 2024, Mitchells Livestock Centre, co*ckermouth held their weekly sale of primestock with 43 Cattle comprising of 13 Prime Cattle and 30 Cast cows; 676 sheep including 346 prime lambs, 159 prime hoggs and 171 cast ewes and rams.
A good quality entry of cull cows sold easily with well fleshed cows commanding a premium, averaging 181.52ppk. Top price cow of the day a Limousin from Mr John Walker, Oxenrigg weighing 783kg selling to a total of £1691.28. Top price pence per kilo was awarded to a Limousin from G&T Tyson, East House weighing 729kg selling for 220ppk totaling £1603.80.
Prime bulls sold well at prices above expectations averaging 255.41ppk. Top price per head was £1800.64 for a Charolais from AJ Wood, Woodhall Brow. Top pence per kilo was awarded to a Limousin bull from Ms Pattinson, Uldale Hall selling for 276ppk.

A larger entry of Prime lambs met a very brisk trade, the resulting prices were very pleasing, in line with recent market trade – averaging 403.69ppk.
The top price per head was awarded to a tremendous Texel Lamb from P&PI Walker, Beechcroft weighing 52kg selling for £254.00 to local butcher and weekly supporter W Lindsay&Sons, Station Street, co*ckermouth.
Top price per kilo was awarded to an outstanding Texel lamb from JD Hetherington & Sons, Blue Dial selling for 500ppk.

A very mixed small entry of Prime hoggs were forward, fleshed hoggs without teeth up continued to sell well, hoggs with teeth up were cheaper.
